I can definitely say Howard Johnson keeps to its standards. It was clean and comfortable and the free breakfast was a bonus. I stayed at a small motel the previous night because it was closer to Acadia Park but it wasn't near as comfortable and good and after realizing the mistake the following day I decided to book my night at H.J. in Bangor. Huge difference. And it cost the same. Will stay here again when I visit Acadia next time. It made my stay so much more enjoyable.
Room rate is $79 per night. Online quotes show $70. What's up with that? Free breakfast bar is pretty decent. Competitively priced rooms but pretty old and bathrooms need to be gutted.

Very convenient, clean, and well appointed for the price. Dbl queen rooms are larger than king bed rooms, and don't face street. Likely they would be quieter; our one night was a bit loud with street & neighboring room noise. Also found the shower to be very low pressure, and room safe was unavailable for use. And since you are near airport you will hear jets by 7am.
AAA had this listed as 8+ stars so we gave it a try. Mistake. Pillows flat, towels rough and thin, water pressure non existent, extra blanket made (no joke) of a horrible feeling, sticky foam. The room smelled badly of cigarette smoke even though it is listed as a non smoking establishment. No elevator, so stuck lugging heavy bags up stairs. The complimentary "breakfast" was pastries, bread, juice and coffee. Positives: inexpensive and fairly quiet.
